- <p> DIED. FRANK WELLS, 62, president of the Walt Disney Co.; killed
- in a helicopter crash while on vacation; in central Nevada.
- Credit for the near magical revival of Disney in the '80s rests
- with chairman Michael Eisner and the less ballyhooed Wells,
- the company's day-to-day manager. Wells was named president
- in 1984, after years at Warner Bros. During his Warner years,
- he attempted to climb the highest peaks of all seven continents--only Everest had eluded his reach when he arrived at Disney.
- Once there, he oversaw the company's resurgence, most conspicuously
- in its traditional businesses of running theme parks and making
- animated features, including such recent hits as Beauty and
- the Beast and Aladdin.
